And that, my friends, is what they call…

Well, I’m just back from the second screening of student film “Closure”.

The film was co-directed by a uni friend of mine, Andrew Golden (http://andrewgolden.wordpress.com/ ).

This is not a romance film. This is not a film about romantics. This is simply a film about beginnings and endings.

The film centres on the year long relationship between Daniel and Eve, but as the blurb states, it is not a film about romance. Rather, it’s a film about relationships.

Closure is told in a reverse narrative, starting at the end of their relationship and finishing with the beginning of it. I was intrigued to see how this would play out and if it would be confusing, or difficult to follow. I found it worked extremely well and it was a really refreshing way to view a film and a relationship for that matter….a real, relatable relationship, (alliteration eh?) between two people, not a sugared up Hollywood version with unnecessary excessive drama.

As I said before, this film is about relationships, but I don’t just mean the relationship between Daniel and Eve.  The relationship between the three friends; Daniel, Golden and Michael was possibly my favourite thing about the film, maybe because it reflected the dynamic I have with a few of my own friends. The friendship between Golden and Michael was a joy to watch, as it was pretty much the embodiment of Scottish wit and humour, and I found myself wishing I knew them just so I could go out and have a drink and a banter with them. Brilliant stuff. Also, There are a lot of lovely location shots in the film that actually manage to make Dundee look pretty nice, (shock, horror).

If you live in Dundee and you have the chance, definitely go and see this film. I think there are already plans for a third screening so i’ll post about that once it’s official.

GLASSES.
Making a glass shader has got to be one of the most finicky things EVER.still got to fix the lighting and texture the bottle labels….oh and do the whole animation :’(Wonder if anyone has a cheeky wee render farm I can plug into…don’t think my laptop can handle it..

this is my life at the moment.
Digital Media Practice presentation on Thursday so I’ve got forty million sheets of paper all over my desk with article sections copied out about how the economic climate is affecting the games industry. Didn’t know I was taking a business module…?Realtimeworlds is dead as we all know, and EA is laying people off left right and centre. Seems like nearly all the major companies are in trouble, which doesnt look bright for my future considering that’s the industry i want to join…Altogether quite depressing and terrifying.HOWEVER, was linked to a cheeky wee article this morning (http://www.develop-online.net/features/1538/Dundee-rising)that says its not all doom and gloom and especially not in dundee since there are loads of small dev companies creeping out of the woodwork all over the place. So would it be better to pin on my hopes and dreams on landing a job in a big industry as a cog in the wheel of eventual collapse or would it be more beneficial to look into honing my skills in the freelance community and eventually (hopefully) becoming part of a smaller company with more creative freedom?gotta find a way of putting all this into my presentation so that it doesnt look like im sitting going DERP, WHAT TO DO? and have it sound like I have a plan, when I clearly don’t….

Altogether quite depressing and terrifying.
